This summer, two world-class conferences — POAC 2025 (Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions) and MASS 2025 (Maritime & Arctic Security & Safety) — come together for a dynamic cross-over event that bridges science, security, and real-world solutions in harsh and ice-covered marine environments.

Where Ice Meets Innovation, hosted at the Marine Institute’s cutting-edge waterfront facility The Launch in Holyrood, NL, is an applied demonstration focused on how autonomous and remote-controlled systems can be used for mine countermeasure operations in Arctic environments.

This collaborative session unites conference delegates, industry experts, academic researchers, and government representatives for an afternoon of integrated research, operational showcases, and emerging technologies.

Attendees will experience:
• Live demonstrations of unmanned aerial, surface, and subsurface systems operating with minimal human intervention.
• Wide-area sonar surveys and the discovery and neutralization of mine-like objects (MLOs) in simulated Arctic conditions.
• Simulation and aerial reconnaissance for ice management and maritime domain awareness.
• Integration of high-resolution sensor data in support of remote operations and decision-making.

Featuring contributions from:
GRI Simulations
Virtual Marine
• National Research Council – Ocean, Coastal & River Engineering Centre
Marine Thinking
StrobelTEK

Set against the stunning backdrop of Holyrood Arm, this event is a celebration of Newfoundland and Labrador’s leadership in Arctic innovation and its pivotal role in shaping the future of marine operations.

Join us at Where Ice Meets Innovation — where the boundaries between research, technology, and application disappear, and collaboration charts the course forward.

A networking reception for POAC and MASS conference attendees will follow the demonstration.
This event is open to registered delegates of POAC and MASS only.
