Andrew Kendrick

the Andrew Kendrick Memorial Endowment Fund, which will provide an annual scholarship to an undergraduate student in Ocean and Naval Architectural Engineering at the MUN, was created.

Andrew Kendrick is a naval architect with over four decades of experience in ship design, icebreaking research, and polar maritime operations. He moved to Canada in 1981 and soon focused on ice-capable vessels and Arctic field programs. He played a key role in international efforts to develop the IMO Polar Code and IACS Polar Class Rules, and has been a leader in applying risk-based approaches to polar shipping.

In 2011, Andrew founded the Ottawa office of Vard Marine Inc., building it into a center of excellence in ship design, marine consulting, and applied R&D. A long-standing member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), he served in many leadership roles, including as President (2020–2021). Andrew had a long association with the Offshore and Naval Architecture Engineering program at Memorial. He has also contributed his expertise to RINA, classification societies, and government advisory boards.
