About POAC
Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John’s, NL, Canada is proud to host the twenty-eighth International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions (POAC’25) from July 13-17, 2025.
This conference will be held at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland, with Memorial’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science being the host. This will be the third POAC conference hosted by Memorial (1977, 1991 and 2025) and we are delighted for POAC to return to St. John’s after more than thirty years!
POAC began in 1971 in Trondheim, Norway, and since then it has been held on a regular basis every two years at different international venues. Similar to prior POAC conferences, POAC’25 will address unique issues related to coastal and offshore engineering in ice-covered waters. POAC conferences have served as a premier event for international exchange on developments in ice engineering topics, including sharing research results and field experience. POAC’25 will offer national and international organizations, industries and research institutes engaged in Arctic, Antarctic and sub-Arctic regions an opportunity to share their most recent work.
We welcome contributions from a wide range of areas related to port and ocean engineering under harsh coastal, marine and offshore conditions, such as:
- Ice Properties and Behaviour
- Floating Offshore Structures
- Remote Sensing and Ice Monitoring
- Ships and Ice
- Ice Mechanics and Risk Modelling
- Offshore Wind Development
- Indigenous Perspectives
- Arctic Regulations
- Ice Field Measurement
- Offshore Geotechnical Engineering
- Polar Codes and Regulations
- Shipping and Marine Safety
- Ice Management
- Station Keeping in Ice
- Numerical Modelling of Ice
- Laboratory Test
- Port and Coastal Infrastructure in Ice
- Icebergs and Ice Islands
- Fixed Arctic Offshore Structures
- Offshore Risk and Safety
- Pipelines and Subsea Engineering
- Environmental Modelling and Climate Change
- Underwater Vehicles
- Navigation and Ship Performance in Ice
- Underwater Noise and Vibration
- Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
We look forward to welcoming you to St. John’s with an opening networking meeting on Sunday evening, followed by an exciting program of technical topics, scientific sessions, invited speakers and many opportunities to engage with colleagues from around the world. POAC conferences have had a very loyal following since they provide current information on the state-of-the-art of ice engineering in a friendly, informal atmosphere and we really look forward to seeing everyone in St. John’s in 2025!
